Towards the evaluation of heat and mass transfer in pipe flows with cocurrent falling films using One‐Dimensional Turbulence

Turbulent mixed convection in an air-water system is evaluated with a novel numerical solver implementing the stochastic One-Dimensional Turbulence (ODT) model turbulent air flow surrounded by laminar cocurrent water falling film cylindrical geometry. The ODT used as reduced order surrogate for effects of advection, heat flux, and mass-flux within one-dimensional domain. An ad-hoc temporal-to-spatial transformation relying on bulk gas velocity to obtain streamwise-dependent statistics flow. simulation results are compared simulations obtained assumption quasi-laminar flow, Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) reference data evaporator [1]. show that transport plays decisive role estimation interface gradients temperature vapor mass fraction. Although predicts global quantities such reasonable way, falls short successfully predicting radial profiles. Despite shortcomings, framework presented here first stepping stone towards evaluation complex multiphase momentum, mass, transfer couplings full scale resolution potential evaporative devices. model, thus, provides valuable information minimal empiricism dynamics small scales pioneering engineering applications.
